iLevel™ by Weyerhaeuser Introduces New TimberStrand® LSL Beam
Ability to Accommodate Larger Holes Offers Greater Jobsite Flexibility
Even with “ready-to-build” plans, the reality is that pipes and wiring must sometimes be re-routed to make all components of a home work together. The question for builders in the field is: “How large a hole can I drill in a beam – and how many – without weakening the beam’s structural capacity?” The maximum hole size that beams could accommodate has often been limited, requiring costly routing of pipes around beams.

Continuing a spirit of innovation, the New iLevelTM Trus Joist TimberStrand® LSL beam has a capacity for larger holes. While builders have relied on TimberStrand LSL beams for years, the improved beam design offers greater jobsite flexibility by being able to accommodate holes up to 4-5/8” (in a 14” deep beam). In addition, the beam allows for drilling of multiple holes – the number of which is determined by the length of the beam and the size of the holes. (www.iLevel.com)
Plumbers and electricians will appreciate the convenience the beam offers since it allows greater capacity for pipes, wires and conduits. Instead of going around a beam, requiring multiple joints, these professionals now have the ability to go through the beam. Straighter runs of pipes and wires use fewer materials and may help reduce installation time and costs. In addition, fewer elbows help provide a more direct flow of water in plumbing.
The New TimberStrand LSL beam comes in widths of either 1-3/4” or 3-1/2”, with depths of 9-1/2”, 11-7/8” and 14”. The iLevel™ Trus Joist® Beams, Headers, and Columns specifier's guide (TJ-9000) provides a convenient reference for complete information regarding allowable hole sizes and minimum spacing requirements.
The New TimberStrand LSL beam is one part of a complete and integrated package of framing materials – from foundation to rooftop – which include trusted products and brands such as Trus Joist Parallam® parallel strand lumber (PSL), Trus Joist TimberStrand® laminated strand lumber (LSL), TJI® joists, Structurwood® panels and Weyerhaeuser Premium Joists™.
